Day at the Beach

A day at the beach with friends and family is the most popular activity at Calanga.
Clear water and beautiful white sand makes this beach a lovely relaxing place to go to.

Kayak Fishing
Beginners
We have Kayak’s to rent and you can get an experienced local guide to first accommodate you on a learning course on our fresh-water lake, situated +/- 5 km’s from the Resort. This is very imported for you to get used to the kayak and to familiarize yourselves with the balancing of the kayak and our local ways and conditions.
Our special 3 – day Kayak training package (R 500-00 p/p) for beginners :
includes a Kayak and local quide as follows :
DAY 1

A 3 hour guided learning expedition at our fresh water lake to get a person use to the Kayak and various other learning activities such as turn-over’s etc.

DAY 2

If a person is not yet completely familiarized with the Kayak, day 2 will be shared between the lake and practicing the launch and the return. If the guide feels that a client is ready for the sea, a 1 hour fishing session can be arranged for day two. DAY 3 :

If a person is ready for the sea and a fantastic fishing adventure, a 3 – 4 hour fishing session will be on the agenda for day 3. Please note that this activity of Kayak fishing, only if the weather permits. Guided fishing adventure with two clients

Walking Trails, Hiking and Birding
The side by side existence of a fresh and saltwater ecosystem, densely vegetated bush, flood plains and wide open savanna grasslands provide habitat for an incredible variety of bird species. We offer a daily trail for clients or for the more experienced walkers, a 3 day and 3 night walking adventure. |
With no recorded or documented account of all the species available in the area, resident or migratory, this remains another attraction for many adventurous bird-watching enthusiasts.
Bird-watching can easily be combined with hiking and Calanga offers various trails for birding and hiking enthusiasts. |

A new activity for all bush and nature lovers - Calanga offers a daily trail for clients or for more experienced walkers :

OPTION 1 - ONE DAY WALK - ±10 km - Moderate
- Guided walk on circular trails ending back at Lodge
- Bush and Beach experience, past Fresh Water Lake

OPTION 2 - 3 DAY/ 2 NIGHT HIKE - Groups of up to 20 people
Day 1 - ± 10 km
- Mostly beach and dunes
- Bathe in sea
- bring own spades for bush toilet
- Can bring own tents or hire 2 man tents available at stopover
- Bring all food and refreshments - fire and braai facilities available
- Fresh drinking water will be available
- Mobile mini-bar and cold beer available!!
- Overnight in tents on beach
Day 2 - ± 15 km
- Camping overnight at Fresh Water Lake
Day 3 - ± 10 km
- Bush hiking along footpaths, ending at Lodge, with hot shower !!!
Turtle Project & Whale watching
During the months of November, December and January the leatherback turtles use the beach at Calanga for nesting. With our strong views on conservation and given the near extinction of the turtles in the Indian Ocean, we already commenced negotiations with the Mozambican authorities to start a Turtle Conservation Project, involving the local community, other role players in the Calanga area and various conservation groups. |

We invite conservation groups, people with experience in this field, universities or anyone with an interest in conservation to give us a hand to get this project started.
Whales also pay a visit to the waters of Calanga and it is only a pleasure to watch them close to the beach. |

Bush Camp
We offer the adventures opportunity for groups or families to enjoy the “bush and beach” unspoiled nature.
For a night or more you can camp in the bush with fully equipped tents and all the camping equipment in certain areas at Calanga.

Snorkeling and Diving
Snorkling can be done at the Fresh water lake or at low tide at the beach. . Due to the fact that we are a relatively new development, full diving facilities are not available but we are busy with negotiations with a private operator to establish the full range of water sports facilities.
Relaxing
Being the most underrated activity of all, Calanga Beach Resort offers our guests an unique location removed from any modern day pressure, isolated in absolute tranquility to just kick back and have their minds, bodies and spirits healed and rejuvenated by those special remedies only paradise can provide. Very safe undisturbed jogging or walking along the beach is also an attraction.
